My freshman year of college has just finished. It definitely had its ups and downs, and it was certainly an adventure. I learned so much about myself and about practically everything else. These are my top 10 comments about the year. 1. Everyone talks about how great college is, but no one talks about how the first semester can suck. If you feel like you're the only lonely one who doesn't have any friends, you're not. After first semester, you'll discover that almost everyone's first semester was difficult...it was certainly not just you. 2. A lot of people go to college with their high school friends, but I think it's important to travel on your own path. Be social. Meet new people. Sometimes it's good to be socially uncomfortable - really good things can come from it. 3. It's okay to go to meals by yourself sometimes. I don't like to sit by myself more than once a day (breakfast), but it's okay to do. 4. Public bathrooms become the norm. They actually kinda rock, as long as the showers are warm. 5. If you don't have snacks in your room, you won't eat them!! 6. Find friends to study with! It will motivate you so much. But pick ones that are motivated and to which studying is important so you aren't just distracted by them!! 7. Remember what's always been important, but try new things. There's no better time in your life. 8. Don't forget about your parents and your family. They've done a lot to help get you to where you are. 9. Be friendly. Have fun. Give people a chance and really get to know them. Don't let high school stereotypes continue to exist in college - your best friends may end up being people you never would have thought you'd be friends with in high school. 10. Smile, laugh, and remember to enjoy yourself. Dance, sing in the shower, appreciate all that you have, take lots of pictures, and don't forget to take in and remember those perfect moments. They don't come every day, but when they do, they're magical.
